Ledclaw: A Dream That Lit Up the Room
We’re two Gen Y dreamers — middle-aged on paper, young at heart. Today, we run Ledclaw from a small workshop, where we somehow manage to squeeze entire worlds into just a few square meters.
Our journey didn’t begin with a business plan. It began with a crisis.
In March 2020, like many others, we found ourselves stuck at home during the first COVID lockdowns. Suddenly, we had time — time to reflect, to learn, to experiment. I finally opened the design programs I’d been avoiding for years. With my wife’s constant encouragement, I began to create. She always believed in my creativity — and eventually, I started to believe in it too.
At first, I had no plans to make anything physical. I thought maybe I’d design some graphics for travel videos or start a blog. But once I started drawing, I realized:
I can actually make things. Real things.
The first was a light-up cassette tape decoration for my desk. That became our very first product:
"Illuminated Cassette Tape – Back to the 90s."
Next came a whale-themed piece for my nephew, a unicorn for my niece — and from there, it all started to take shape.
Each design began as a mental sketch, then moved to a screen, and finally came to life through wood, paint, and wiring. I remember spending hours putting things together while listening to '80s music or classical pieces. It wasn’t just work. It was therapy. A way to breathe during a chaotic time.
People around us loved what we were making. But outsourcing wood cutting was expensive. We had to make a choice: stop, or go all in.
We went all in.
We turned a room in our house into a mini workshop. My wife, always the braver one, supported the idea wholeheartedly. I’ll never forget the day my father stopped by, looked around, and said:
"I congratulate you, my dear. You carry the spirit of my son. If I had tried something like this, your mother never would have allowed it."
By the end of 2020, we had taken the leap. We built everything from the ground up — our products, our brand, our website. In 2021, we started shifting more focus toward design, and slowly expanded our product line.
The Next Chapter: Steady Progress Through Grit
By early 2023, we had proudly completed over 850 handmade sales, with more than 600 on Etsy.
As of today, we've reached over 1,300 sales across all platforms.
Every single piece is still created by us — designed, cut, painted, and assembled by hand.
We both still work regular day jobs. And every evening, Ledclaw comes alive in our home studio.
Sometimes we feel like we need 48 hours in a day. There’s rarely time to sketch all the ideas waiting in our heads. But then we read a kind review or see a customer photo — and that’s what keeps us going.
In the summer of 2021, we moved our large industrial laser cutter into a small rented shop.
Painting, assembly, and packing still happen at home.
Every upgrade we’ve made has been possible thanks to the amazing people who chose handmade over mass-produced.
You made this journey possible.
2025: Lighting Up a Bigger Stage
Until now, Ledclaw has grown quietly — almost entirely through Etsy.
But as of June 2025, we’re stepping into something new.
We’re finally focusing on our own website, running our very first ads, and aiming to reach more people around the world.
We’re still just the two of us. Still building everything with our own hands.
But we’re ready to take small, intentional steps toward something bigger —
One light, one customer, one smile at a time.
Our Mission
We design for people who fall in love with the details — people who aren’t just looking for a product, but an emotion.
We want you to feel something when the lights turn on:
a smile, a memory, a spark.
That’s the feeling we chase in every piece.
A Final Thought
Whenever I start to doubt myself, my wife reminds me of a quote by Stefano D’Anna:
“Dream, dream, dream… Never stop dreaming. Reality will follow.”
We hope our story lights the way for others.
Thanks for being part of it.
See you soon.
